Queen Marley Chair
Queen Marley was designed as a reinterpretation of classic Queen Anne chairs. I wanted to have cutouts that personified the beauty in the non symmetrical. The center cutout was originally drawn by hand to personify the beauty in the non symmetrical. This chair was designed in a way that kept the structural integrity of the back rest in tact by using a minimal line drawing at the center.
I took curly hair as an inspiration for the wavy back, looking to the symbolism in the natural hair movement. I wanted to use a precision tool, the laser cutter, to make something that treats the sinuous lines not as imperfections but as a conscious repeatable choice. The lines were hand drawn and were copied over to a vector software and turned into cut paths for the laser.
